In the Beginning: How Evolution Drones Started

Hello, and thank you for visiting EvolutionDrones.com.

Behind every drone design is a story, and for Evolution Drones, that story started long before the first frame was designed. My inspiration began in 2018 with FPV drones, but my love for radio-controlled machines started much earlier.

Like many FPV pilots, I first entered the hobby through traditional RC. I was drawn to EDF jets and 3D helicopters. My first airplane was an MIG-29 Red Star foam EDF jet that I ordered from Banana Hobby. Looking back, that was probably a terrible choice for a first plane, but I was excited. Every flight was a mix of laughter, panic, and uncertainty.

That plane quickly taught me an important lesson: with any skill, you need to start small.

Of course, I did not learn that lesson right away.

Not long after, I found myself searching eBay for lightly used helicopters because I wanted to learn 3D flight. There were a few moments flying helis that I can look back on now and realize I probably put myself, and maybe even others, in danger. Thankfully, no one was ever hurt, but those experiences helped me understand where I really needed to start.

Not out at the field with a jet.

Not with a 3D helicopter.

At home, on the flight simulator.

Eventually, after enough simulator time and real-world practice, I gained the experience to fly more responsibly and not scare myself every time I put something in the air. Just as I started getting comfortable with planes and helicopters, a new category began to emerge: FPV drones.

I had a close friend I used to ride motorcycles with. One day, he crashed his bike, and I think that experience made him realize motorcycles were not for him anymore. That eventually led him into FPV drones. He quickly started learning everything he could about the hobby, and before long, he convinced me to buy my first FPV drone.

That drone was the Eachine Wizard 220.

Out of the box, it was a great package. All you really needed was a pair of goggles and a radio, and you were ready to cause chaos.

Once again, I jumped into something new thinking my previous RC experience would carry me through. I figured my line-of-sight flying skills from planes and helicopters would be enough.

They were not.

Transitioning from line of sight flying to first-person view was completely different. FPV felt like learning to fly all over again. So I did the only thing that made sense.

I went back to the simulator.

But this time, I needed to know if FPV simulators even existed.

They did.

That was my first introduction to DRL — The Drone Racing League Simulator. It opened up a whole new world for me. I could crash, reset, and try again without breaking parts every five minutes. That simulator became the place where I started building real FPV muscle memory.

From there, FPV became more than just another RC hobby. It became a creative outlet, a technical challenge, and eventually the foundation for Evolution Drones.

Evolution Drones was born from that same process: learning, crashing, rebuilding, improving, and pushing designs further with every version. Every frame, canopy, and part I create is shaped by those early lessons — start small, test hard, and keep evolving.

That is what this brand is about.

Not just drones.

Evolution.
